The Microphones - Song Islands

Broadcast-The Future Crayon [UK]

One of my favorites :)

Jim O'Rourke- Halfway To A Threeway

Nate actually gave this album to me too haha. I've seen Sonic Youth three times and I was lucky enough to see Jim O'Rourke play with them one of those times. I always thought he just did noise stuff, but when Nate told me this is Jim O'Rourke, I flipped. This little EP is really fresh from the rest of his collection of songs. It changed my whole view on his discography.

Good music:

Grouper- Tried 7"

Nathan showed me Grouper and she is still one of my most favored artists he's showed me. This is her latest release which shows a brighter and (maybe) a more structered side to her. I'm really interested in what she's coming out with. Thanks Nate.

Rocketship- A Certain Smile, A Certain Sadness

I love this album. Dustin Reske makes some of the coolest and simplified pop songs. A Certain Smile, A Certain Sadness came out in 1995, but it sounds like it could've come out last year and still be easily categorized as a pop band, but I think there's more to them. This album gets alot of comparisons to early Stereolab or a poppier My Bloody Valentine, which are awesome comparisons, but one thing I (sometimes) don't like about this album is how fucking loud that organ can get. Nevertheless, give it shot!

The Magnetic Fields- Distortion

Fuzzzzzzzzz. The new Magnetic Fields album "Distortion" is filled with just that- distortion. Lots of it. This spaced out album is definitely a curve in their own discography though. The Magnetic Fields have always taken chances with new sounds and approaches to song writing and I think they're overlooked. This album sounds like Brian Wilson and a quirky tounge and cheek The Jesus and Mary Chain came together. Check out the tracks "California Girls" and "Please Stop Dancing".

Atlas Sound- Let The Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel

Photobucket

This is Bradford Cox's(Deerhunter) new band. It's pretty much leaves off where I could imagine Deerhunter would've gone. If your'e into shoegaze with lush pop sensibilities, get this album. I always check out his blogspot, deerhuntertheband.blogspot.com, and as should you! He puts up a ton of rad mixes, a ton of demos from Atlas Sound and Deerhunter, and just a bunch of other funny shit. This one is a modern gem in my opinion. Dig.

Gotta start somewhere...

Hello Blogspot,
I'll be posting some insightful things, some not-so insightful things, and maybe even a few records I'm into at the time of posting. Let the rapture begin:

As far as music goes, lately I've been into a lot mellow jams. I just picked up Laura Veirs-Saltbreakers and I can't stop listening to it. I've been really interested in song-writing and arrangement. So if any of you are into that sort of thing, I'll be putting some records up and that will definitely be one of them. Some others I'm thinking about are: The Magneitc Fields- Distortion and maybe Joe Lally- Nothing is Underrated. Sleep well everyone.
